Jocelyn Châteauvert: Within and Out

Through February 28, 2010, Gallery Hours – Artist’s Loft, Second Floor Free and open to the public

Châteauvert, a jewelrymaker by trade, is also a skilled papermaker who has been hand making paper for the past 20 years. Drawing inspiration from the work of Richard Serra’s large scale, often maze-like metal structures, Châteauvert’s exhibition immediately presents visitors with the experience of pathways into space, light and sound. Châteauvert says she is drawn to paper because of its very nature – paper is sound absorbing with an ability to transmit light. Paper is organic and has a chameleon like quality because it can take on the appearance of other elements, like stone or bark.
